Doll therapy

Anyone can love and enjoy a doll, but for many people with additional needs and disabilities, dolls make a huge difference to wellbeing.
People with dementia often find that a doll helps them to feel calm and happy. ‘Caring’ for dolls can create a renewed sense of purpose and help people to communicate. Holding a doll from their childhood, or a similar doll to one they had, can connect them to happy memories. I recommend this resource from Dementia UK on using dolls in dementia care.
Autistic people, such as myself, can also benefit from doll therapy. When I was a child, dolls helped me to ‘practise’ friendships and relationships in a safe way. They brought me comfort and helped me to feel less lonely.
If you or a loved one are affected by a disability, please don’t hesitate to let me know how I can accommodate and support you in the process of having your doll repaired. Sometimes I provide a short video for reassurance while a doll is in my care. Where a broken doll is causing significant distress, I can ‘fast track’ the repair to get them mended and home as quickly as possible. Do discuss your needs and requirements with me and I’ll do my best to help.
